necromorph stormtrooper

Here we see a stormtrooper (unit markings not recognised) that has undergone some kind of mutation. Whether this is due to an unknown lifeform or whatever the empire was working on in the facility is yet to be discovered.

Discovered on a planet in an uncharted area of space while assessing potential military sites, the signal began to affect all aboard the star destroyer in orbit. Those affected reported hallucinations (such as seeing loved ones and dead comrades) while others only heard a deafening noise and felt a growing sense of paranoia and rage. A facility was quickly constructed around the area where the signal was coming from and it's origin was unearthed. The engineers and scientists built a device to contain the signal so they could study it further. After discovering the object was creating an apparently limitless supply of energy the scientists tried to replicate it and eventually succeeded. Although the ones they created were red rather than black, they still gave off the same signal and energy. Unfortunately their containment field wasn't as secure as they thought, and rather that stopping the signal, it only slowed it down. Those that were adversely effected were separated and studied in the hopes that the signal could be used as a form of mind control similar to that utilised by the Jedi and Sith. In time many of the subjects were either killed or committed suicide due to being driven insane by the constant tests and, of course, the signal. This led to another and rather disturbing discovery: the signal reanimated dead cells. After containing the newly resurrected specimens, dubbed "necromorphs",  the scientists increased their tests and production of what they came to call "markers" to use as bio-weapons. This only increased the signals strength and  the number of personnel affected, both in space and planet-side. Not long after this the rate of suicides and violent assaults escalated and unable to store all the freshly risen necromorphs the operation descended into chaos. A distress signal was sent out shortly before the facility went dark. A republic patrol intercepted the distress call and dispatched a commando unit to assess the situation. 72 hours later the commando team has yet to make contact."
