Gears of war 2.
Blood Drive.
Horde mode.
Level 39.
5 Players.

I started as Benjamin Carmine, my friends were playing as Tai Kaliso, Dominic Santiago, Anthony Carmine ( the brother of Ben) and Augustus "Cole Train" Cole.

After surviving the last 38 waves of locust we were all low on ammo and grenades, well the ones that hadn't fallen victim to their bullets or chainsaw bayonettes. I had just respawned in the middle of the map with my golden lancer (that i acquired with my limited editon of G.O.W2), a snub pistol, a shotgun and a smoke grenade. the three members of our team that had survived had taken up positions at the top of the stairs to the right side of the map which meant me and the other Carmine had to get to them before the losucst invaded the map. We were about half way up the stairs when they arrived.

The guys at the top of the stairs provided cover while we ran up to safety. But we werent the only ones trying to reach them, a boomer brandishing a "mulcher" gattling gun and two locust "grubs" armed with lancer assault rilfes were right behind us. The combined fire of our team-mates managed to bring down the two grubs but the boomer  kept on walking, kept on firing. I joined in the assault and eventually it fell but the sound of the screams and gunfire alerted its allies to our position.

With only seconds before they reached us we were in trouble. Tai, Cole and Anthony Carmine sent their grenades into the crowd of bloodthirsty locust tearing up the steps. they erupted into a cloud of blood and guts while the small ape-like wretches burst through the gore. they were quickly dispatched by lancer fire and shotgun blasts. For a moment there was silence, broken only by the sounds of reloading. Then Dom noticed a clicking noise. Surely it was only someone reloading, right?

Wrong, it was the locust's living landmines. they were called Tickers and they were small creatures. about the size of a small dog, but they had a bomb fused into their back which detonated when they flexed their muscles and they were pretty quick too. In seconds they were at the top of the stairs, all around us. we jumped out of their blast radius and into a door way, but Tai wasnt quick enough. Two of the creatures went up causing him to fall to his knee's. Before we could reach him to revive him the rest of the Tickers detonated. We watched helplessly as our friend exploded, his cries for help were drowned out in the sound of the explosion.

The whole event had taken less than 10 seconds, and we had been so focused on our comrade that we hadnt noticed the grubs moving up the stairs. Dom moved to retrieve Tia's ammo and remaining grenade but was met with a chainsaw bayonett which sliced up through his spine and out his left shoulder. Cole charged foreward with His chainsaw out and drove it into the locust's chest. We quickly moved to cover him and after 3 minutes of continuous gunfire we managed to kill the locust one the stairs. Suddenly the floor began to shake, there were no earthquakes in the game except when the locust came from their emergence holes. But that didnt happen in horde, it could be only one thing. Boomers.

Most Boomers carry Boomshot's, the locust version of a rocket propelled grenade. it fires one explosive which then splits into several smaller charges which can be lethal to anyone in a five meter radius. But recently the C.O.G forces began to encounter other types. some carried the "mulcher" like the one we had fought only moments ago, some carried a flamethrower with fuel tanks on their back. and some carried a crude meat cleaver, these were thought to be the locust butchers or cooks.

If it was the flame boomers they could be taken out by shooting the fuel tanks on its back which would cause it to explode. If it was the butchers, they could be killed by gunfire and they were only dangerous at close range. but if it was the grinder type then we were in trouble as they were dangerous at any distance.

We took up postions at the top of the stairs and in a window which overlooked the stairs. A.Carmine ran half way down to plant a grenade on the wall. just as he planted the grenade 3 Boomers rounded the corner. Two Grinders and a regular boomer. We were in trouble. Carmine couldnt get up the stairs without being torn apart by the lumbering creautres, so he dove to the left and sprinted through a doorway. Me and Cole opened fire on the three brutes. it took 3 clips before one of the trio fell and they were almost upon us. as we stood up to face our fate, the grinder exploded. the sudden loss of its team mate drew the remaining boomer's attention. this gave us time to equip our shotguns and blast the beast to pieces.

As we reloaded, we wondered what had caused the explosion and what had become of carmine. With only 5 locust remaining we thought we could leave the safety of the room. I went first while Cole covered me. We decided to go throught the same door that Carmine had gone through before. He was nowhere to be seen, but there were a couple of grenades that i took. Cole muttered something about needing them more than me. Suddenly Something moved down the corridor which silenced him. He slowly crept towards it while i covered the door we had just come through with my almost empty shotgun. There were no screams or sounds of gunfire so the thing must have run off.

I planted one of the frag grenades and ran to catch up with Cole and found that he was gone and so was the ammo box at the bottom of the small flight of stairs. There was no blood so he had to have taken the ammo and ran, but why hadnt he waited for me? I had two choices. Go left, up the main stairs and be totally exposed or go right and risk being ambushed in the narrow hallway. i chose to go right as two locust sprinted down the main stairs. They hadnt noticed me so i was safe for the moment, and I remembered that there should be some more grenades in the next room. But there werent two grenades in the next room, only two gun wielding blurs.

I froze, expecting to be gunned down by the locust in front of me, but for some reason they didnt fire. only then did I realise that the two figures in front of me where Cole and Carmine. They had restocked on ammo and grenades so they went out first. While I covered the rear. Two grubs had taken cover inside the doorway to the left and where quickly dispatched by a grenade from Carmine while Cole eviscerated the lonesome Wretch that was hidden away in the doorway on the right. Only two locust remained and they had crept up behind me, i only managed to get off two shots into one of them as its friend brought his chainsaw down on me. blood sprayed up onto the roof and across the walls while the locust screamed "FOR THE QUEEN!" Cole and Carmine had heard the shots and quickly killed the my executioners.

We had won although it didnt feel like it. the round was over but the match was not over. There were still 10 more waves to go.
a match of horde i played with my friends.

please forgive any punctuation and spelling errors.

Sounds epic. I'd love to meet up with you in a round of Horde any time. I play as Anthony. You sound like a guy who can hold his own in a match.
