Clone sniper by halonut117 Clone sniper by halonut117
I love the clone troopers, they are the best thing in starwars, in my opinion and I hate the way that they're ordered to certain death and treated like they're just cannon fodder in the movies, books and tv shows. That's what droids are for.

One thing I never liked about their design though is that they aren't kitted out very well. They have barely enough room for ammo and a couple of grenades if they're lucky so I thought I'd have a go at redesigning them.

So here's a Clone sniper. Trained to take out high value targets, observe enemy positions and provide long range cover fire. Their armour is lighter than most other Clone units as they need to be able to move quickly and quietly through enemy territory. This trooper has customised his armour with a hood, tactical wrist mounted computer and a dark brown colour scheme to help blend in.

apologies for the quality of the work and the image but it's on A3 and I colour like a 5 year old having a fit

I don't think the clones actually required to carry lots of ammo pouches since the Tibanna gas cartidges yielded hundreds of rounds/shots by themselves and were pretty compact. (which always made me wonder about the DC-17 ammo size, but figured that was for gameplay's sake) Still looks menacing and impressive though. I feel like this would be a mercenary who salvaged clone armor and "tweaked" it to his liking.

have you read the Republic Commando book series by Karen Traviss?
it tells a much better story about the clone wars from the perspective of the Spec Ops Commando clones, from being down in the dirt behind enemy lines, to undercover urban operations, to eventually trying to find a way out of the war without dying... how would you feel if you aged twice as fast, never had a family beyond your brothers and the old Mercs they hired as your Drill Sergeants and Instructors, and have no foreseeable future besides being killed on some borderplanet for a cause you don't fully understand?

yeah, I love the series. I'd be pissed off to say the least, which is why I like Kal'buir so much. He loves them like they're his own children and he'll do anything to see that they have a normal life.

its a shame that Traviss won't be doing anymore, or at least thats what I heard :(

Thanks to the Clone Wars tv show retconing the entire Mandalorian backstory, and for what? 10 to 20 episodes? maybe?

I hate that CGI bullshit so much. I know its a kids show but they made it seem like the whole war was a joke. The original clonewars managed to make it fun but serious.

i like the troopers in general in very episodes, especially their interactions with Obi-wan and others
what frustrated me alot thouh was how they gave General Grievous to the cartoon dudes and said 'make a badass villan outta this concept art' and they create the cybernetic mastermind strategist mechanical monster that can annihilate 5 or 6 Jedi at once without force powers... and then the movie totally ruined him...

EXACTLY! he's the ultimate jedi killer and its truly amazing to watch him in action but all we get is a shuffling, wheezing seperatist who can barely manage to swing a lightsaber for a few minutes. Then the bullshit CGI series just runs with it and ruins everything. Did they not see the original clonewars? Did they not see WHY he was coughing?

They look much more badass when their armor isn't bleach white. I love it

yeah that always annoyed me. I could understand it in AOTC because they didn't know they were going to be deployed to an orange desert world but in ROTS we saw them on kashyyyk . No excuses for having them all bleached when they clearly know how camouflage works

Yeah, The orange and blue markings some of them wore didn't make much sense either. I mean, it looks cool and all but bright colors are impractical

exactly, unless its felucia or somewhere equally bright. A small patch on their shoulder or chest would be enough to show what unit they're in. works for us so why not them?

I dunno, Looking cool is more important than being practical in movies. Just how things seem to work
